The head of the Ukrainian armed forces admits attacks on Russian soil

At the end of 506 days of war, a confession emerges: the Supreme Commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Valerii Zaluzhny, acknowledged in an interview with the American daily The Washington Post attacks on Russian soil.

“It is not our problem and we are the ones who decide how to kill the enemy. It is possible and necessary to kill on their territory when we are at war,” Zaluzhny said in the interview published in yesterday’s edition.

Valerii Zaluzhny stressed that all armaments used in these military actions on Russian territory are Ukrainian and not those supplied by its allies, provided it is not used to attack Russian territory.

“In case our partners are concerned that we use their weapons, I tell you that we use our own weapons (…) Why should we ask someone’s permission to save my people through actions in enemy territory?”, he argued.

Bulgaria will deliver 100 armored vehicles from the Bulgarian police stockpile, mainly infantry vehicles, to Ukraine, according to Sofia authorities.

The military equipment was bought 40 years ago to carry out the so-called “cultural renaissance” process – an attempt by the totalitarian regime to forcibly assimilate the Bulgarian Turks – and has never been used.

The war has already led to the flight of more than 14.7 million people: 6.5 million internally displaced persons and more than 8.2 million to European countries.

The decision on armored vehicles was announced just a week after Zelensky’s visit to Sofia in Bulgaria’s first military aid package for Kiev.

Bulgaria is one of the few NATO member states with large quantities of Soviet-era weapons and equipment, as well as their ammunition, used by the Ukrainian military.

In Kiev, the government reiterated calls for help from Western partners to protect the country’s airspace and the Ukrainian Air Force spokesman said Ukraine is “far from being protected” from Russian missile strikes like last week in Lviv (west).

“In order to prevent these terrorist attacks, in which Russia regularly uses missiles against densely populated cities, we need more air defense assets” (…) To protect ourselves from “drones” and missiles, we need modern and multi-purpose combat aircraft, capable of to intercept threats close to important state targets,” he noted.

Ignat said the decision, yet to be made by the Allies, to supply F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine is of “historic significance”.

“We are already seeing the results of the NATO summit [que terminou na quarta-feira]. These fighters will be delivered to Ukraine and our pilots will start training within a month,” he continued.
