Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was released from hospital on Sunday after being admitted with an illness on Saturday, his office said. The 73-year-old head of government was rushed to Sheba Hospital, Israel’s largest hospital, near Tel Aviv on Saturday.
Dehydration
“Our diagnosis after a series of examinations, including laboratory tests, is that the reason for hospitalization was dehydration,” Professor Amit Segev, head of the hospital’s cardiology department, said in a video released by his service.
“His heart is completely normal (…), no arrhythmia was detected (…), we decided to place a subcutaneous Holter to continue monitoring,” added the doctor.
Heat wave
On Saturday, Benjamin Netanyahu was vacationing with his family at Lake Kinneret in northern Israel as a heat wave gripped the entire country.
In a video recording released Saturday after his hospitalization, Benjamin Netanyahu said he spent time at the lake with his wife, “in the sun, without a hat, without water.” “It wasn’t a good idea,” he said, adding that he was feeling “very good” today.
It also recommended that Israelis “spend less time in the sun” and “drink more water” due to the high heat in the country.
Benjamin Netanyahu, who along with his allies from ultra-Orthodox and far-right parties won the November 2022 election, was hospitalized overnight last October after feeling unwell during the Yom Kippur fast, the holiest on the Jewish religious calendar.
