At least two residents of Russia’s Belgorod region died on Monday and a child was injured “in an emergency” on the Crimean bridge, Russian authorities have announced.
A couple died and their daughter, who suffered minor injuries, will be immediately transported to Belgorod if doctors allow, Belgorod governor Viacheslav Gladkov said.
“In recent days, we have sent our children to the Crimean camps,” said Gladkov, who assured the parents that “nothing threatens the life” of the children.
The governor of the Crimean peninsula, Sergey Axyonov, annexed by Russia in 2014, declared “an emergency” on the bridge, after at least two explosions were heard and damage to the road was later discovered.

“Circulation has been suspended on the Crimean bridge: an emergency has occurred in the area of the [pilar de] 145 support of the Krasnodar Territory”, isaid the responsible person on Telegram’s messaging platform.
This has been recognized by the Russian Ministry of Transport there is “road damage to parts of the Crimean Bridge”, which connects the occupied peninsula to Russia, but the piers are intact, reported the Russian news agency TASS.
Local residents heard two explosions around 01:04 and 01:20 in Lisbon, according to comments posted on the Russian social network VKontakte, quoted by EFE news agency.
In October last year, a booby-trapped truck exploded on the bridge, the longest in Europe at 19 kilometers and the crown jewel of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Five people were killed in the attack, described by Moscow as a terrorist attack.
