Since the riots that swept the country, French courts have handed down 1,278 verdicts, 95% of which were convictions.Justice Minister Éric Dupond-Moretti said on RTL radio on Wednesday.
“It was extremely important to respond forcefully and systematically,” said the minister. “It was essential that order be restored.”
A total of 1,056 people were sentenced to prison terms, including 742 who received effective prison terms, with an average length of 8.2 months, the minister said. There are currently 600 incarcerated.
