At least three people have been killed in a gun incident in Auckland, including the gunman who opened fire on a building in the New Zealand city where the Women’s World Cup kicks off on Thursday.
Local police inspector Sunny Patel confirmed the deaths of the gunman and two other people in the wake of gunfire in the city center on Thursday morning (7:22 am local).
New Zealand police responded to the gunfire and cordoned off several streets in the city center and acknowledged in a statement that the incident was significant, after asking the population to avoid the area.

“The serious incident this morning [de quinta-feira] it is in a building under construction on Queen Street. Police are asking the public to avoid the lower part of Queen Street and keep those in city center buildings inside,” the statement clarified.
The first match of the Women’s World Cup is scheduled for Thursday at 19:00 local time (08:00 GMT) in Eden Park, Auckland, between New Zealand and Norway. most populous city
The Portuguese team will compete in a women’s world championship for the first time in the event to be played between July 20 and August 20.
Portugal, who play in Group E, based in New Zealand, will make their league debut on Sunday against the Netherlands, starting at 7:30 pm local (8:30 am Lisbon time), in Dunedin, before playing Vietnam on July 27, starting at 19:30 local time (08:30 GMT), in Hamilton, and across the United States in Auckland, on August 1, starting at 19:00 (08:00 from Lisbon).
