A Spanish court said Thursday it has opened a new investigation into Colombian music star Shakira for alleged tax fraud.
Added to this new process is what the interpreter of hips do not lie, 46 years old, is already before the Spanish judiciary. Shakira is due for trial at the end of this year in a case in which she is suspected of being guilty of paying 14.5 million euros in taxes on income earned between 2012 and 2014.
Now, a court in the northeastern Spanish town of Esplugues de Llobregat, near Barcelona, has said it has agreed with prosecutors to investigate two possible cases of tax fraud committed by Shakira in 2018.
The court is not giving any further details about her statement.
Spanish prosecutors have demanded eight years in prison and a €24 million fine in the first case after Shakira rejected a plea deal on tax evasion charges. This case is about the place where the singer lived between 2012 and 2014.
Prosecutors say Shakira moved to Spain in 2011 when her relationship with former footballer Gerard Piqué became public, but maintained official tax residence in the Bahamas until 2015.
Shakira’s lawyers said that until 2014, most of the singer’s income came from international tours and that the artist only moved to Spain permanently in 2015, after she had fulfilled all her tax obligations.
The singer has repeatedly denied all allegations and claims to owe nothing to the Spanish tax authorities.
Shakira and Piqué, who have two children, lived together in Barcelona until last year when they ended their 11-year relationship.
The singer announced in April that she and her children will officially leave Barcelona. “I settled in Barcelona to give stability to my children, the same thing we are now looking for in another corner of the world,” Shakira wrote on Instagram.
The singer’s name appears in one of the largest information leaks related to the disclosure of financial documents, in October 2021, the “Panama Papers”. Shakira is associated with offshore assets.
Holder of three Grammys, Shakira has achieved great global successes such as Anytime, Anywhere and Waka Waka (this time for Africa)official song of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
