A hailstorm left at least 110 injured in the Veneto region, in northern Italy, during the early hours of this Wednesday.
The Italian press writes that the emergency services responded to more than 500 incidents. In addition to caring for the injured, the authorities were called in to remove tree branches, parts of roofs and broken glass from windows from the streets.

There is still one fatality related to the storm. A 53-year-old man died while riding a bicycle, being run over by the woman who was following him and who lost control of the vehicle due to hail on the road.

Quoted by the newspaper La Repubblica, the mayor of the Veneto region, Luca Zaia, says that hailstones of more than 10 centimeters in diameter fell.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, hailstones of this size can fall from the sky at speeds of between 70 and 160 km/h.

Italy is still affected by the anticyclone Charon – the ferryman who transported souls to Hades in Greek mythology – which is causing a heat wave with temperatures never seen before.
There are more than 20 cities on red alert and maximums of 45ºC in some parts of the country.
