Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on Sunday for an air shield to protect the entire country from Russian missiles, appealing to the international community not to get used to the “terror” these attacks cause.
“Ukraine needs a full air shield – this is the only way to defeat Russian missile terror,” Zelensky wrote on Telegram, assuring that Ukraine has already shown that it is capable of shooting down “even the Russian missiles that the terrorists bragged about.”
The Ukrainian head of state also stressed that thanks to international aid and air defense systems provided to Ukraine, “the defenders of the sky saved thousands of lives.”
“But we need more air defense systems for all of our territory, for all of our cities and communities. The world must not get used to Russian terror: terror has to be defeated. It’s possible!” he appealed.
The military press center reported on Sunday that, according to data from the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, ten civilians were killed and another 43 wounded in attacks on Saturday in ten regions of the country.
This morning, a Russian attack on the port city of Odessa resulted in the death of a civilian and the injury of more than 20, including four children, and Ukrainian air defense managed to shoot down nine of 19 missiles launched.
The attack also damaged 25 monuments in Odessa’s historic center, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, including a cathedral restored in 2007.
On the social network Twitter, the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, described this attack as “another war crime” perpetrated by the Kremlin.
The Russian military offensive on Ukrainian territory, launched on February 24 last year, plunged Europe into what is considered the most serious security crisis since World War II (1939-1945).
