Nearly 2,500 people were evacuated overnight from Corfu, Greece, where a fire is raging in the north of this resort island, a fire department spokesman said Monday.
The forest fire caused the “preventive evacuation of 2,466 people” this morning, said Yannis Artopios.
So far, no houses or hotels have been destroyed, he added.
On Sunday, the authorities had already ordered the evacuation of several places on the island of Corfu, after a major evacuation operation, the largest ever carried out in Greece, on the island of Rhodes on Saturday.
