Ukraine and Russia exchange allegations of attacks involving civilian victims

Ukrainian and Russian authorities again exchanged accusations on Thursday of reciprocal attacks involving civilian victims, in what has become an almost daily ritual, this time in Ukraine’s Zaporijia region and Russia’s Briansk region.

In southern Ukraine, in the city of Zaporijia, at least one person was killed and five injured this Thursday after the Russian bombing of a civilian building that had already hit the previous day, Ukrainian authorities announced.

“A fire broke out in a civilian building behind the residents [russos] they hit him with a missile. At this time, we must mourn the death of a person.”wrote Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the digital platform Telegram.

According to the head of the city’s military administration, Anatoli Kurtiev, five people were also injured in the Russian attack.

In Russia, Alexandre Bogomaz, the governor of the Briansk region, close to the border with Ukraine, announced that two people were killed and two others injured in a Ukrainian bombing this Thursday.

“Unfortunately, another man died from injuries sustained in the bombing of the village of Tchaussy”declared Bogomaz on Telegram.

“At the moment, two civilians have been killed by actions of the Ukrainian armed forces”he underlined.

According to the Russian regional governor, two other residents of the village, “a woman and a man”, also suffered “more or less serious injuries”.

‘They receive all necessary medical care’the official assured in his statement.

The Russian authorities regularly condemn attacks by the Kiev army on the Briansk region or raids by ‘drones’ (unmanned aerial vehicles) that also come from Ukrainian territory.

None of the information released can be immediately confirmed by independent sources.

The military offensive launched by Russia in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, triggered the worst refugee crisis in Europe since World War II (1939-1945), according to UN data.

The invasion – justified by Russian President Vladimir Putin with the need to “denazify” and demilitarize Ukraine for Russia’s security – was condemned by the international community at large, which responded by sending arms to Ukraine and to impose on Russia political and economic sanctions.
