X’s top executive, Elon Musk’s number two, said this Thursday that hateful content on old Twitter won’t go away as long as it’s legal, but it’s getting harder to see and share.
In an interview with CNBC TV, the first since her appointment in June, Linda Yaccarino said she shares with Musk an almost absolute view of free speech and that the social network now has “zero tolerance” for anything illegal.
However, he specified that it is different when it comes to something “evil, but legal”, resorting to a pun in English (“terrible but lawful”).
In these cases, he continued, the person who publishes this kind of content is tagged in such a way that he cannot share it and this makes it difficult for him to be visible on the networks.
Still according to Yaccarino, this is also important from an economic point of view, as this content will never be associated with advertising brands.
This is a pertinent detail, as some recognized brands, such as Coca-Cola and Visa, have left Twitter to avoid appearing next to “toxic” content, which is now reportedly more difficult.
