The Communist Party of Venezuela denounces the government’s “attack” on its organization

The Communist Party of Venezuela (PCV), which currently opposes President Nicolás Maduro, this Saturday denounced an “attack” on its organization by rejecting the judicial measure appointing a new leadership, a resolution that. as they say now, “reveals the authoritarian and undemocratic nature” of the government.

The Supreme Court (TSJ) ruling is similar to other judgments that that court issued as far back as 2020, when it also ordered judicial intervention in several of the main opposition parties. At that time, the PCV did not take a public position.

According to the court order, the party’s new leadership will be chaired by Henry Parra, a leader who last July appealed against the current communist leadership, claiming it had locked out the organization’s bases.

The PCV believes that Justice has committed an “unforgivable error of law” and claims that those who promoted the appeal are not part of its organization.

The Communist Party of Venezuela was an ally of the late President Hugo Chávez (1999-2013), but broke with Maduro when the current president began to relax rigid controls over the economy, in an attempt to reactivate Venezuela’s economy. crisis.

The communist organization also questions the loss of purchasing power, due to inflation and currency depreciation, when the current monthly minimum wage is less than 5 dollars (4.56 euros), already supplemented by various state bonuses.

In July 2020, the TSJ suspended the leadership of Voluntad Popular, the party of exiled opponents Leopoldo López and Juan Guaidó.

Earlier, in June of the same year, the same court took similar measures against two other major opposition parties: Acción Democrática and Primero Justicia.

At the time, Guaidó called the TSJ the “judicial arm” of Maduro’s government.
