At least six people were killed, including a baby, during a Russian shelling today in the Kherson region of southern Ukraine, the Kiev government announced.
“Russia caused the death of six people in the Kherson region,” Ukrainian Interior Minister Igor Klymenko said.
The shelling killed three adults and a 23-day-old baby in Shyroka Balka and two others in Stanislav. In one of the photos released by the minister, we can see a column of black smoke rising over a house.
“Husband, wife and 23-day-old daughter died under enemy artillery fire. 12-year-old son was hospitalized in serious condition,” Klymenko wrote on Telegram.
In the town of Stanislav, two men were killed and another person was injured.
“The terrorists must be stopped. They must be stopped by force,” stressed the minister.
Kherson is one of four regions of Ukraine that Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed in an annexation of Ukrainian territory in September 2022. It is now under Ukrainian control but is a regular target of Russian shelling.
In Russia, authorities reported today that they shot down two unmanned aircraft (‘dron’) in the Belgorod region, on the border with Ukraine.
A Russian warship fired warning shots at a cargo ship heading to the port of Izmail in southern Ukraine, the Russian Defense Ministry said today.
“To force the vessel, which was flying the Palauan flag, to stop, warning shots were fired from light automatic weapons at a Russian warship,” the Russian ministry said.
According to Moscow, the ship had not responded to the first inspection requests, but after a search on board it was able to continue its route to the port of Izmail, on the banks of the Danube.
The river port of Izmail, in the Odessa region, has become one of the main exit routes for Ukraine’s agricultural products since Moscow ended a deal in July to export Ukrainian grains across the Black Sea.
