Ukrainian army says it has recaptured three kilometers in Bakhmut

The Ukrainian army has recaptured three kilometers of territory near Bakhmut, in eastern Ukraine, one of the targets of the current counteroffensive by Kiev forces, the Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister announced Monday.

“In the Bakhmut sector, three kilometers were recovered last week. In total, 40 kilometers have already been recaptured on the southern flank of the Bakhmut sector,” a city that was captured by Russia in May, Hanna Maliar told Ukrainian television.

Further south on the eastern front, the Ukrainian deputy minister reported an “extremely difficult” situation around Avdiivka, where Russian forces are trying to take over from the Ukrainians.

On the southern front of the Ukrainian offensive, launched in June, Kiev forces recorded “some successes” south of Staromayorske, a town recaptured at the end of July from Muscovite forces, added Hanna Maliar.

Fighting continues, mainly to retake the nearby city of Urozhaine.

In the Kherson region, the deputy minister also reported actions carried out by “certain units” of Ukraine on the east bank of the Dnieper, from which the Russian army withdrew in November 2022, turning the river into the front line.

“We cannot reveal the details, but we carried out these actions (…),” said Hanna Maliar, adding that “it is necessary to dislodge the enemy and recover territory” on this battlefront.
