From September 1, Portuguese roads will receive 37 new speed control radars, the Jornal de Notícias reports on Wednesday. In 12 of these, the average speed is measured for the first time.
These new average speed radars will be deployed on four motorways – A1, A25, A3 and A42 – as well as national highways EN10, EN109 and EN211 and on two complementary routes, IC19 and IC2. At the other 25 locations, mainly national roads, instantaneous speed is measured, writes JN.
These new radars, which will be identified by a road sign – it has a blue background and the image from two cameras in black – measure the speed at which a vehicle is moving in a first device and record the speed again in a second tool. The system then calculates the average speed between the two points.
The expansion of the SINCRO (National Speed Control System) network, presented this Wednesday in Montijo, will include a further 25 speed control points which, according to the National Road Safety Authority, will come into operation on a “date to be announced”. ANSR) to JN.
There will be a total of 62 new speed trap locations with 39 mobile radars, Ana Tomaz, vice president of ANSR, explained to the newspaper.
