Zelensky changes rules to select Constitutional Court judges

The President of Ukraine signed a law on Thursday that changes the rules for the selection of judges of the Constitutional Court, one of the priority reforms defined by the European Commission for Kiev’s accession to the European Union.

“I have just signed one of the main laws that Ukraine needs to start negotiations with the European Union on the accession of our country. The law guarantees a transparent, professional and fair selection of the judges of the Constitutional Court, ”said Volodymyr Zelensky, in his usual daily speech.

According to the Ukrinform news agency, the Ukrainian president guaranteed that negotiations will start this year and that Ukraine is “one step closer to joining the European Union.”

Brussels has identified seven priority reforms in the field of the judiciary and the fight against corruption that are necessary to advance Ukraine’s European path.

kyiv applied for formal membership days after the Russian military aggression and as early as June last year, the EU recognized Ukraine’s candidate status along with Moldova.
