The president of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, confirmed this Sunday that the forest fire, which occurred on Tuesday in Tenerife, “was provoked” and revealed that the Civil Guard maintains three lines of investigation.
At a press conference, Fernando Clavijo said that, although from the beginning it was suspected that it would be an arson attack, the investigations by the Civil Guard confirmed it.
The president did not provide further information.
Fernando Clavijo hopes that the perpetrator or perpetrators of the fire, which began in the Sierra de Arafo, with several fires, will be arrested, and regrets all the damage caused by the flames, in addition to endangering the lives of thousands of people.
Regarding the complaint against three people, who on Saturday jumped the perimeter of the Las Lagunetas area to access a house, Clavijo said that they were identified.
The President added that he expects a double sanction to be applied through criminal and administrative channels.
“Not only did they endanger their lives, but also those of the people who had to rescue them,” stressed Clavijo, who considered, however, that despite this episode, the behavior of the population “has been exemplary.”
