The forest fire in Tenerife, Spain, has already affected 11,600 hectares since Tuesday and has a perimeter of 84 kilometers, according to data from the Civil Protection of the Canary Islands, cited this Sunday by the EFE agency.
A hundred inhabitants of the Candelaria area will be able to return home this Sunday, after being evacuated due to the forest fire, as reported by the head of Civil Protection of the Government of the Canary Islands, Montserrat Román.
While the resettlement of these inhabitants is being prepared, the situation in Arafo is discussed with the directors of the firefighting works.
Arafo and Candelaria are the areas where the fire started on Tuesday, which currently affects 11 municipalities in Tenerife, and where the first front is located that, to this day, can be considered stabilized.
The president of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, confirmed this Sunday that the forest fire “was provoked” and revealed that the Civil Guard maintains three lines of investigation.
The Canary Islands Rescue and Emergency Center assured this Sunday morning that the fight against the flames has gone better than expected last night.
The number of people withdrawn from the localities was then updated to 12,279, with data provided by the police and town halls, a figure lower than the 26,000 initially advanced and which corresponded to provisional estimates.
