At least 17 people were killed Wednesday after a railway bridge in India collapsed while it was being built over a ravine in the Indian state of Mizoram.
The fatalities are workers and there are still missing people.

The news was announced this Wednesday by the chief minister of Mizoram, Zoramthang, on the social network Twitter, formerly known as Twitter, which advances that a rescue operation is being carried out for the remaining workers.
“I am deeply saddened and affected by this tragedy. I send my deepest condolences to all the affected families and wish the injured a speedy recovery. Thank you to the people who came in large numbers to assist in the rescue operations,” he wrote.
Video posted by Zoramthanga shows a metal structure bringing down tall columns in a forested valley.
The Indian Express newspaper, citing a police source, says 17 bodies have been recovered and “many others” are missing.
“Rescue operations are ongoing and all possible assistance is being provided to those affected,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s office said.
Modi was “devastated” by the accident and sent “condolences to those who lost their loved ones,” said his office in X, which advances that the Government will pay 2,400 dollars (about 2,220 euros) to the families of the victims.
Mizoram is located in the far eastern part of India, on the border with Myanmar.
