Jair Renan, son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, was the target of a search and seizure warrant during an operation by Brazil’s Federal District Civil Police on Thursday morning. The operation is directed against a group suspected of fraud, forgery of documents, tax evasion, money laundering, crimes against public beliefs and criminal organizations, in addition to crimes committed at the expense of the state treasury of the Federal District.
Maciel Carvalho, friend and shooting instructor of Jair Renan, was arrested during the operation. Eduardo Alves dos Santos, who is under investigation to be the “front man” of the plan, is on the run. The agents were at two addresses of the former president’s youngest son, in Brasilia and in Balneário Camboriú, in the state of Santa Catarina.
This operation, which the police called Nexum, is a follow-up to two others, Succedere and Fasso Coach. According to the authorities, those under investigation allegedly falsified accounting records and issued false invoice receipts for their companies.
The investigation is being conducted by the Police Bureau for the Repression of Crimes against the Tax Order, linked to the Civil Police Department for the Fight against Corruption and Organized Crime.
