Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa this Thursday considered the death of the leader of the Wagner group, Yevgeni Prigozhin, “irrelevant” to the development of the war in Ukraine.
“Frankly, I don’t think it’s relevant. First, it didn’t change a situation or anything. Politics didn’t exist politically”said the president of the republic during a visit to Ukraine.
Speaking to journalists, the Portuguese head of state confessed that he “did not expect to find this open and unbounded society”, meaning that “Ukraine has taken many, many steps forward”, and praised the Ukrainians: “They are exceptional. They are very independent and love their independence. They have a rare courage and rationality. I have met people who were very emotional, but without losing their minds. It is unfair for them to say that they like to go to war for the sake of war. What they want is to live in peace. Peace.”
Marcelo also said that all his memories of Kiev are good and he never felt scared.
