“We are making great progress.” Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov told BFMTV on Wednesday that Ukrainian troops continued to advance against the Russian army in the east and south of the country.
According to the minister, “today we can say that we have liberated several thousand square kilometers, and almost 1,500 localities.”
“We are moving safely towards liberation”
“In the east of Ukraine, near Kharkiv, Lugansk, we are making great progress,” said Oleksiy Reznikov. But “also in the south of the country”: “We have reached, for example, the right bank of the Dnieper.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had already claimed “rapid and powerful” advances by his army in southern Ukraine on Tuesday night, referring to “dozens” of towns taken in a week.
Asked about the ongoing fighting to retake the city of Kherson, in the south of the country, Oleksiy Reznikov explains that it is difficult to know whether “the Ukrainians will take days or weeks to retake the area”, “but we are confident that we are moving safely towards the liberation not only of Kherson but of all our cities”.
