Russian air defense forces shot down a drone Friday evening as it approached Moscow, the capital’s mayor Sergei Sobyanin said early Saturday.
“Air defense forces destroyed a drone approaching Moscow through the Istrinskii district,” Sobyanin wrote on the Telegram messaging platform.
According to initial information, “there were no casualties or damage,” he added.
But this was not the only drone attack recorded in recent hours, as another was intercepted in a border area, according to Russian authorities, which also reports Ukrainian bombings that injured four people in the border town of Belgorod.
The number of Ukrainian drone strikes has increased in recent months. Moscow and other regions have been the target of attacks and, more recently, Crimea annexed by Russia. On Friday, Russia’s defense ministry said it had shot down 42 Ukrainian drones in the region.
For his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his satisfaction that the war “came to Russia”.
On Wednesday, authorities in the Belgorod region, on the border with Ukraine, reported that three civilians had been killed by Kiev’s armed forces.
On the same day, a drone crashed into a skyscraper in Moscow’s business district.
