Toyota suspends operations at 14 factories in Japan due to computer glitch

The Japanese car manufacturer Toyota Motor suspended operations in 14 factories in the country on Tuesday, due to a failure in the computer system, without anticipating when it will be able to resume activity.

“It is a failure in the system that is preventing parts orders. We do not know when it will recover, but we are trying to resume operations,” said a company spokesman, who stressed that, in principle, this was not the case. , a cyberattack.q

Initially, the company, based in Aichi, in central Japan, had announced the suspension of operations in 12 of the factories, to which two more facilities were added. All 28 production lines at 14 Japanese factories were shut down.

The shares of Toyota Motor, which opened on Tuesday in positive territory on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, closed the session with a fall of 0.16%, after the announcement.

This stoppage occurred after the company was forced to suspend production in all factories in the country, in March, following a computer attack on one of the suppliers, which affected the order platform.

Japanese authorities investigated the case to determine the source, which came shortly after several countries warned of the possibility of Russia carrying out cyber attacks against nations that supported sanctions against the Kremlin over the invasion of Ukraine.
