The Russian head of state, Vladimir Putin, will be absent at Yevgeny Prigozhin’s funeral, which could take place this Tuesday or Wednesday at the Serafimovskoe cemetery in Saint Petersburg.
“The presence of the president is not planned,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov said at a press conference on Tuesday.
Vladimir Putin’s spokesman also claimed that the Prigozhin family is responsible for “everything related to funeral ceremonies.”
On August 24, Vladimir Putin announced the passing of the former leader of the Wagner group and sent his condolences to the family of the oligarch who ran the mercenary company.
According to the official Russian version, Prigozhin died this month after the accident of the plane in which he was traveling, over Russia, in which eight other occupants were traveling.
The men hired by the Wagner company have been fighting since 2021 in Ukraine and Syria, as well as in various parts of the African continent.
