Ukraine orders the evacuation of children from five southern front locations

The Ukrainian government has ordered the removal of children from five sites on the southern front, in the Zaporizhia region, in light of “the difficult security situation and Russian bombing,” the Ministry of Reintegration announced on Tuesday (29) .

In total, “54 children and 67 people accompanying them will be evacuated on a mandatory basis,” the ministry responsible for the reintegration of the Russian-occupied territories announced in a statement published on Telegram.

The five locations are “Guouliaïpoleh, Stepnoguirsk, Preobrajenka, Egorivka and Novopavlivka,” the ministry said, adding that the decision was made “unanimously” at a meeting of local authorities.

According to this source, “in addition to children, the compulsory withdrawal will be applied to people with reduced mobility living in the above locations”.

The announcement was made after Ukraine said on Tuesday it had moved close to Robotyne, a location some 50 kilometers southeast of where the civilian evacuation will take place.

So far, the counter-offensive launched at the beginning of June in that southern region, but also in the east, has made it possible to regain control in only a few locations.

The Russians had several months to reinforce their positions with trenches and minefields spread over hundreds of kilometers.

Civilian evacuations have been relatively uncommon in Ukraine in recent months, as most residents have fled areas of heavy fighting or want to stay at all costs.

The last major operations of this type took place on August 10 around Kupiansk (northeast).
