Russia’s Defense Ministry said on Monday that it had destroyed four speedboats with Ukrainian soldiers on board in the Black Sea this morning.
“In the northwestern part of the Black Sea (…) naval aviation of the Black Sea Fleet destroyed four US-made Willard Sea Force military ships” carrying “landing parties of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” the ministry said. . .
On the Telegram messaging platform, the ministry said the Ukrainian ships were heading towards Cape Tarkhankut, located on the western Ukraine’s Crimean peninsula, annexed by Russia in 2014.
On Wednesday, the ministry said it had destroyed four Kiev military ships carrying a total of up to 50 special forces members, without providing further information.
On August 24, Ukraine announced that it had carried out an unusual military operation on the Crimean peninsula, during which the Ukrainian flag was symbolically raised.
Ukrainian special forces units arrived from the sea and landed west of the peninsula, before departing “without loss”, according to Ukrainian military intelligence.
Russia also announced on August 22 that it had “destroyed” a speedboat carrying Ukrainian soldiers near Serpentine Island in the Black Sea, after claiming the same day that a reconnaissance ship had been destroyed.
Also today, Russia’s Defense Ministry said it had shot down a Ukrainian drone over the Crimean peninsula, as well as a second drone in Russia’s Kursk region near the border with Ukraine.
The Ukrainian drones “were destroyed in the air over the Black Sea near the Crimean peninsula and over the territory of the Kursk region by in-service air defense systems,” the Russian Defense Ministry said.
In a note published on the Telegram messaging platform, the ministry specified that the two attacks occurred around 1:00 a.m. (11:00 p.m. on Sunday in Lisbon).
On Sunday, the Ukrainian navy said six Russian soldiers were killed in an attack on a Russian military patrol boat as it carried out a landing operation in the northwestern Black Sea.
“Six occupants (…) died and two more (…) were injured,” the Ukrainian Navy said in a statement, accompanied by a video showing Russian soldiers jumping from the ship to unload material, possibly weapons, when a A huge explosion occurs.
Ukraine has intensified attacks in the Black Sea and Crimea mainly using ‘drones’, which have already caused serious damage, such as the Russian warship Olenogorsky Gornyak and the Kerch bridge, which connects the peninsula with the Russian mainland.
Russia said on Saturday that it shot down three Ukrainian naval drones in the Black Sea that were targeting the Kerch Bridge, a strategic structure that had already come under attack in the summer.
