New bomb threat hits kyiv schools and universities

kyiv authorities said on Monday there was a new bomb threat against all schools and universities in the Ukrainian capital.

“The Kiev police have again received a report of a bomb threat in all schools and colleges in Kiev,” the city’s military administration reported on social media, after the first day back to school on Friday. was marked by a bomb threat, which turned out to be false.

The authorities are taking all necessary measures and ask citizens to remain calm. The schools and the police will decide whether or not the children and teachers should be removed from the institutions.

This is the second academic year that classes in Ukraine have been held in the context of the war. At the beginning of this school year, 240,000 children and youth in kyiv chose to study at school rather than remotely.

As fighting rages in eastern and southern Ukraine, major cities far from the front line are also regularly hit by Russian missile or drone strikes.

According to Iermak, 3,750 schools have been destroyed “by Russian missiles and bombs” since the start of the conflict.

In some cities, underground shelters have been built to allow teachers to continue their classes in the event of aerial warnings of possible bombings.

“Schoolchildren and teachers are forced to adapt to these realities. But the most important thing is that our children study,” Ukrainian Army Commander-in-Chief Valery Zaloujny also said on social media.

“Knowledge and culture are what distinguishes us from the enemy. These are the pillars on which the current front rests and on which the future of our country will be built,” he added.

Since the beginning of June, the Ukrainian army has been carrying out a counter-offensive in southern and eastern Ukraine, in an attempt to retake the territories occupied by Moscow forces.

Ukraine has relied on financial and arms support from its Western allies, who have also enacted sanctions against Moscow to try to reduce Russia’s ability to finance the war effort.

The number of civilian and military casualties from the war is unknown, but several sources, including the UN, have admitted that it will be high.
