British intelligence services alerted on Monday about intrusions into mobile phones used by the Ukrainian army involved in a counteroffensive against the invasion of Russia.
According to UK intelligence, in a Defense Ministry statement, Russia is attempting to obtain “sensitive military information” from the Ukrainian Armed Forces through computer attacks on mobile phones used by the Ukrainian military.
The British report cites the findings of the UK’s National Cyber Security Center (NCSC), as well as “other international partners”, which reported on Thursday a “malware campaign (computer attack) against mobile devices used by the military ukrainian”.
According to the same sources, the program used in the alleged Russian cyberattack has been identified as “Infamous Chisel”, which has already been used by the “hacker” group Sandworm.
Previously, the NCSC, the British information security agency, had already assigned links from the Sandworm group to the Special Technology Center of the Central Information Office of the Russian Army General Staff.
“Infamous Chisel” is a program that allows permanent access to filter and recover data from Android devices.
The same program is also allegedly used “against computer applications of the Ukrainian army”, indicates the same statement released today by the British Ministry of Defense through the X social network.
“These activities demonstrate Russia’s continued use of cyber capabilities to support the military invasion of Ukraine,” the British document said.
