Kiev says it has ‘photographic evidence’ that Russian drones crashed in Romania

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said on Monday that the Kiev government has “photographic evidence” that drones launched by Russia against the country’s southwest on Sunday fell on the territory of neighboring Romania.

Kuleba made these statements after the Ministry of Defense of Romania, a neighboring country of Ukraine and a member of the European Union (EU) and NATO, “categorically” denied that Russian-launched missiles or drones (unmanned aerial vehicles) have reached Romanian countries. area.

“We have photographic evidence,” the head of Ukrainian diplomacy assured in response to the Romanian response, adding: “We are ready to share it, but the final conclusions will be for the Romanian authorities, who will also decide what they must do. “.

“It’s easier to jump to conclusions than to do something about it afterwards,” added the head of Ukrainian diplomacy, describing it as “useless to deny that something fell there.”

And he insisted, “We say with authority and evidence that they were ‘drones’ from the Shahed,” in reference to the Iranian-made devices that Russia has used.

Russia attacked the Izmail district, Odessa region, on Sunday with at least twenty ‘drones’. In this district, near the Romanian border, are the Ukrainian river ports on the Danube, which Russian forces have attacked several times in recent weeks.

The spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine today assured that some of these “drones” crossed the border and “fell and exploded” on Romanian territory, i.e. hit a NATO country.

Article 5 of the NATO treaty stipulates that the signatory countries agree that an armed attack against one or more of these countries will be regarded as an attack against all of them.

It was not the first time that Bucharest and Kiev have differed in their assessment of the consequences of a Russian attack on the Ukrainian border areas.

In February 2022, Ukraine reported that a Russian missile had invaded Romanian airspace, a claim denied by Bucharest.

The Russian military offensive on Ukrainian territory, launched on February 24 last year, plunged Europe into what is considered the most serious security crisis since World War II (1939-1945).

Ukraine’s western allies have been arming Kiev and passing successive sanctions packages against Russian interests to try to reduce Moscow’s ability to fund the war effort.
