British band Rolling Stones will release a new album of originals, titled “Hackney Diamonds”, their first since 2005’s “A Bigger Bang” and since the death of drummer Charlie Watts.
The announcement was made via social media on Monday and further details will be shared on Wednesday at an event in Hackney, an area of London, where band members Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood will be interviewed by the host of American television Jimmy Fallon. .
“Let’s talk about the new album, about new music, about a new era,” reads a post on the band’s official Instagram about the conversation with Fallon, which takes place at 2:30 p.m. (Lisbon time).

According to a Rolling Stones statement, quoted by the Associated Press, “Hackney may be at the heart of the Hackney Diamonds, but this is a truly global moment that we want to share with fans around the world via YouTube.”
The making of the announcement follows a campaign in which the group’s logo was projected in various cities, including New York and Paris, and the launch of a dedicated website for the album.
The Rolling Stones were formed in 1962, in London, and have maintained continuous activity -and popularity- ever since, something unparalleled in the history of popular music, as recalled by the group’s entry in the Encyclopedia Britannica.
