“Imbrochable, imbrochable, imbrochable,” Jair Bolsonaro shouted in unison with a crowd of supporters on September 7, 2022, as Brazil celebrated 200 years of independence. With Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, President of the Republic of Portugal, at his side, the then president, in addition to praising his alleged sexual power, also delivered an election campaign speech, even “disguised” as the head of state.
A year later there was no Bolsonaro, but Lula da Silva, winner of those elections. There was no Marcelo – there was only the presence of local authorities. There was no speech – there was a communication from Lula to the country the day before. There was no election campaign or attacks on other powers – there was the sober slogan ‘Democracy, Sovereignty and Union’. From one year to the next – from one president to the next – there were therefore many differences in the celebration of one of the most important holidays on the Brazilian calendar.
