Russia has shot down two Ukrainian drones in the Belgorod region, on the border with Ukraine, without causing any casualties, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Monday.
“Active air defense systems destroyed two aerial drones over the territory of the Belgorod region (…) around 01:20 Moscow time” (23:20 on Sunday in Lisbon), the ministry wrote on the Telegram platform.
“Our defense system worked in the Yakovlevsky district: two drones were shot down. There were no casualties,” the region’s governor, Vyacheslav Gladkov, said in turn. also on Telegram, adding that the drone debris fell on a road near a residential building.
The Belgorod region is located in western Russia, bordering Kharkov on the Ukrainian side.
Ukrainian drone offensives against Russian cities near Ukraine, on the annexed Crimean peninsula or in Moscow have increased in recent months, as part of a counter-offensive by Kiev, in the context of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
On Wednesday night, two Ukrainian drones were destroyed in Rostov-on-Don, the Russian army’s logistics center, located in the southwest of the country, less than 150 kilometers from Ukraine.
