Moscow says it shot down two Ukrainian drones in Russia’s Belgorod region

Russia shot down two Ukrainian drones in the Belgorod region, on the border with Ukraine, without causing any casualties, the Russian Defense Ministry reported this Monday.

“Active air defense systems destroyed two drones over the territory of the Belgorod region (…) around 01:20 Moscow time” (23:20 Sunday in Lisbon), the ministry wrote in the Telegram platform.

“Our defense system worked in the Yakovlevsky urban district: two drones were shot down. There were no victims,” declared the governor of the region, Viacheslav Gladkov, also on Telegram, adding that the remains of the drones fell on a road near a residential building.

The Belgorod region is located in western Russia and borders Kharkiv on the Ukrainian side.

Ukrainian drone offensives against Russian cities near Ukraine, in the annexed Crimean peninsula or in Moscow, have increased in recent months, as part of a counteroffensive by Kiev, in the context of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

On Wednesday night, two Ukrainian drones were destroyed in Rostov-on-Don, the logistics center of the Russian army, located in the southwest of the country, less than 150 kilometers from Ukraine.
