The United States warned North Korea on Wednesday that no country should help Russian President Vladimir Putin “kill innocent Ukrainians,” stressing that Pyongyang will have to bear the consequences if it does.
“We continue to urge North Korea to keep its public pledge not to support Russia’s war in Ukraine. No country should in any way assist Vladimir Putin in killing innocent Ukrainians.”White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said at a news conference.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un met with Russian President Vladimir Putin this Wednesday during an exceptional visit to Russia aimed at strengthening their relations, especially military ties.
The summit took place at Russia’s Vostochny cosmodrome, in Siberia’s Amur region.
Putin stated that he sees prospects for military and space cooperation with North Korea, despite international sanctions imposed on Pyongyang over its nuclear programs and production of new missiles.
“If they decide to move forward with any kind of arms deal, there will certainly be repercussions for North Korea, both from the United States and the international community.”Kirby points out.
Washington considers it likely that Moscow will seek military equipment.
