This Friday morning, the rain caused flooding in homes and roads in the Community of Madrid, as well as disruptions in the metro and trains, and firefighters recorded 350 incidents, including calls to rescue people inside the cars.
The floods occurred in several parts of the Community of Madrid and in the city, as a result of the intense rains that fell during the morning, according to the 112 Emergency service.
The same service indicated that around 350 incidents had been recorded until 08:00 local time (07:00 in Lisbon), due to the rain, which began to fall around 05:00.
Several roads were flooded or filled with water and, in two of them, in the areas of Alcalá de Henares and Ajalvir (both approximately 40 kilometers from the city of Madrid), firefighters removed several people from the cars.
The commuter train stations were also flooded and the same thing happened in the Madrid metro, where some sections of two lines were cut off.
At 8:00 a.m. traffic in the subway and on most roads in the region returned to normal, but authorities continued to ask drivers to be careful.
Within the city of Madrid, firefighters recorded around 120 incidents, most related to minor flooding or falling tree branches.
According to the Spanish State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), the Iberian Peninsula is today under the influence of a low Atlantic pressure system that will cause almost widespread rain, accompanied by storms, in continental Spain and the Balearic Islands.
Six people died earlier this month in the Madrid region and the neighboring province of Toledo due to heavy rains.
