North Korean leader Kim Jong-un was “impressed” by Friday’s visit to two aircraft production plants in Russia’s eastern region of Khabarovsk, state news agency KCNA reported today.
Kim Jong-un expressed “deep respect for Russian aeronautical technology” and claimed, in the guest book, to have witnessed the “rapid development” and “gigantic potential” of the Russian industry, according to the agency.
The North Korean leader visited one of the “main aircraft production facilities,” according to the Russian Minister of Industry and Trade.
“We see potential for cooperation both in the field of aircraft manufacturing and in other industries,” noted Denis Manturov.
“This is especially important to fulfill the tasks facing our countries to achieve technological sovereignty,” added the Russian leader.
However, according to the Russian presidency, no agreement was signed between the two countries during the North Korean leader’s visit to the country.
“No agreement was signed and this was not planned,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov told reporters in Moscow on Friday, quoted by the France-Presse (AFP) news agency.
The United States has said it suspects Russia wants to buy weapons from Pyongyang to use in the war against Ukraine, while North Korea wants to acquire technologies for its nuclear and missile programs.
Washington has warned Pyongyang that it will suffer consequences if it contributes to Russia’s war effort in Ukraine.
Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Kim Jong-un on Wednesday at the Vostochny Cosmodrome in the Russian Far East.
