The autopsy of the Iranian authorities attributes the death of Mahsa Amini to a brain disease

The Iranian authorities said this Friday that the death of Mahsa Amini was not caused by “beating”, but by the consequences of an illness, three weeks after the start of the demonstrations motivated by the death of the young woman during her detention.

Arrested on September 13 by the Tehran morality police for violating the strict code on the wearing of women’s clothing provided for in the laws of the Islamic Republic, in particular the wearing of the veil, this Iranian Kurd died three days later in hospital.

Several opposition activists said that she was injured in the head during her detention. Iranian authorities denied any physical contact between the police and the girl and said they were awaiting the outcome of the investigation.

Her death sparked protests in the country, with Iranian women at the forefront, and solidarity actions in various regions of the world.

The demonstrations, the most important in Iran since those that took place in 2019 against the rise in fuel prices, were harshly repressed.

At least 154 people died as a result of the repression exerted by the Iranian security forces against the protests, according to the non-governmental organization (NGO) Human Rights Iran (HRI), while an official balance refers to some 60 deaths, including 12 members of the security forces.

“Mahsa Amini’s death was not caused by blows to the head or vital organs,” but is related to “surgical intervention on a brain tumor when she was eight years old,” said a report by the Iranian medico-legal organization, while his father, Amjad Amini, indicated that his daughter was in “perfect health.”

“On September 13 [Mahsa Amini] He suddenly lost consciousness and fainted (…) He suffered from an alteration in his heart rhythm and a drop in blood pressure, ”adds the report broadcast on state television.

“Despite the transfer to the hospital and the efforts of the medical staff, he died on September 16 after multi-organ failure caused by cerebral hypoxia,” according to the same source.

The repression of the demonstrations was denounced by several countries and international organizations and involved the imposition of sanctions, in particular by the United States.

The Iranian regime carried out hundreds of arrests and imposed severe restrictions on access to social media. Tehran has also accused outside forces of fueling the protests, particularly the United States and Israel.
