Five people were detained and more than a hundred Syrian citizens were found by German police inside apartments and other buildings in Germany following searches related to alleged migrant smuggling, the DPA news agency reported.
According to the German news agency, police executed five arrest warrants, three in the northern German city of Stade and two in the western German city of Gladbeck.
The five detainees, of Syrian nationality, are asylum seekers and already lived in Germany.
According to the DPA, the Syrian immigrants were allegedly brought to Germany without legal residence documents and had to pay between three thousand and seven thousand euros.
More than 350 German federal police took part in the searches, which also took place in cities and towns in northern and western Germany and in Bavaria in the south of the country.
