The provisional death toll from Friday’s suicide attack in Pakistan stands at 52, a medical source in the city of Mastung reported.
The head of the Balochistan district Health Department, Abdulrazaq Shahi, stated that there are 52 dead, while police sources affirm that a local police officer is among the fatalities.
“The process of transferring the bodies and transferring the injured continues,” said the director of the Raisini hospital to the Pakistani news portal Dawn, Saied Miruani.
The digital publication states that “it is possible that the death toll will increase in the coming hours.”
Authorities also report that the explosion occurred near the vehicle of Mastung police “number two” Nauaz Gishkori.
The explosion reportedly hit the vehicle of a police officer who was following a religious procession of believers near a mosque.
So far, the attack has not yet been claimed.
The governor of Balochistan province, Ali Mardan Jan Domki, declared three days of mourning.
Pakistan’s caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar has already condemned the attack.
This is the second attack in Mastung since the beginning of the month.
On September 14, 11 people were injured, including the leader of the political and religious party Jamiat Ulema Islam (JUI), Haffiz Hamdullah, after a roadside bomb exploded.
In Pakistan there were 271 bomb attacks in the first half of the year, causing 389 deaths and 656 injuries, according to EFE, citing official sources.
