This morning an explosion was heard near the Turkish parliament in Ankara. The Turkish government claims that it was a “terrorist attack.” One of the attackers was killed in the explosion and a second terrorist was killed by security forces.
“Two terrorists appeared aboard a light military vehicle around 9:30 a.m. (except two in Lisbon) in front of the entrance door of the General Directorate of Security of our Ministry of the Interior and carried out a bomb attack,” said the Ministry, reporting two injuries among the police.

According to the Turkish press, gunshots were also heard in the Parliament neighborhood, an area that houses many ministries.
Images posted on social media show a strong security system in place. This Sunday the opening of the new legislative session in the Turkish Parliament was scheduled.
