More than fifty people are killed in the Russian bombing of Kharkiv

At least 51 people were killed in a Russian bombing of a shop in a village in eastern Ukraine on Thursday. The attack in the Kharkov region of eastern Ukraine was denounced by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during his trip to Granada, Spain, where he was participating in the European Political Community summit.

On social media, the Ukrainian head of state said at least “48 people have been reported dead” at a location near the city of Kupiansk, close to the front line separating Ukrainian and Russian forces. However, the death toll was updated to 51 deaths.

The head of the presidential office, Andrii Yermak, and Kharkov Governor Oleh Syniehubov said a six-year-old boy was among the dead. adding that at least six other people were injured following this attack, one of the deadliest against civilians since the war began in February 2022.

Zelensky speaks of a ‘brutal Russian crime in which a supermarket is hit with a rocket’. This is “a completely deliberate terrorist attack,” he stressed.

Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said the Russian attack hit a cafe and a shop as a ceremony was taking place in honor of a slain resident of the village.

“There were people from every family, from every home, present at this ceremony. This is a terrible tragedy.” Klymenko told Ukrainian television.
