Attacks in Israel. Portugal strengthens the services of the Consular Emergency Office

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MNE) said on Saturday that it had strengthened the telephone service of the Emergency Consular Office for Portuguese in Israel following the attacks by the Palestinian movement Hamas.

According to an official source, “the services of the Consular Emergency Office have been strengthened” and “calls on the MNO to contact” the agency’s numbers: +351217929714/+351961706472.

“The MNO is continuously monitoring the situation, through the Portuguese Embassy in Tel Aviv, and advises all Portuguese who are in Israel to strictly follow the instructions of the local authorities,” the Communities Portal said.

In a statement this Saturday, the ministry indicated that there is no data on Portuguese people directly affected by Hamas’ attacks on Israel.

“According to the information collected so far, no Portuguese have been directly affected by this morning’s attack on Israeli territory. However, 15 tourists who are in the country, far away from the affected area, have contacted the Emergency Consular Office to announce their presence in the country. the territory,” said the note from the ministry overseen by João Gomes Cravinho.

The Foreign Minister today strongly condemned the attack launched on Israel by the Islamist group Hamas from the Gaza Strip in the early hours of the morning.

“We strongly condemn the terrorist attacks launched by Hamas against civilians this Saturday. Israel has the right to defend itself,” the head of Portuguese diplomacy wrote in a message on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

The Islamist group Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israeli territory this Saturday, under the name Operation ‘Storm al-Aqsa’, with the launch of thousands of rockets and the incursion of armed militiamen by land, sea and air.

In response to the surprise attack, Israel bombed several Hamas facilities in the Gaza Strip from the air, in an operation it dubbed “Iron Swords”.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that Israel is “at war” with Hamas, which has controlled the Gaza Strip since 2007.

More than 200 people were killed in Israel this Saturday in the Hamas offensive, while at least 232 Palestinians were killed in Gaza as a result of the Israeli airstrikes that followed, according to the latest data confirmed by medical sources cited by international agencies.

The number of injured in the Gaza Strip rose to 1,697, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry, and in Israel it rose to 1,100, according to emergency services, as a result of the Hamas offensive and the Israeli response.
