The war between the Palestinian movement Hamas and Israel has displaced 123,000 people in the Gaza Strip as of Monday morning, according to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
“The hostilities caused internal displacement” among the inhabitants, the United Nations agency stated this Monday.
“More than 17,500 families represent 123,538 people, who fear their protection and the destruction of their homes,” adds the UN.
Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israeli territory on Saturday (Operation al-Aqsa Storm), with the launch of thousands of rockets and the incursion of militias.
In response to the surprise attack, Israel bombs the Gaza Strip.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that Israel is “at war” with Hamas.
