The European Union (EU) has adopted the last two packages of the ‘Fit for 55’ environmental strategy, the Renewable Energy Directive and the Aviation Fuels Regulation.
With the adoption of the last two pieces of legislation, the EU now has legally binding climate targets covering all major sectors of the economy.
The European bloc has defined renewable energy and energy efficiency targets and will gradually eliminate new polluting vehicles by 2035, while increasing charging infrastructure and the use of alternative fuels in road, maritime and air transport.
The ‘Fit for 55’ strategy, proposed within the framework of the European Ecological Pact, envisages reducing emissions of pollutant gases by at least 55% by 2030, compared to 1990 levels.
