Before the latest Russian attacks, life had resumed almost as before in Kyiv. An encouraging situation that led Yassya, a Ukrainian living in France, to visit her family in the capital.
Come Saturday, he did not expect to have to live under the threat of bombing again. But this Monday morning, several strikes fell in Kyiv and many other Ukrainian cities. “It’s a disaster. From 6 in the morning we had the sirens. At 8 in the morning they began to bomb. (…) We saw it badly,” he explains live this Monday on BFMTV.
Since the resumption of the Russian attacks, the young woman lives with her mother, a few minutes from the center of the city affected by the bombing. “There are many people who are staying, who are not going to leave because everything is blocked,” Yassya describes.
Before the strikes, “Kyiv lived well”
Not far from his home, explosions occurred in particular near a university and a Ukrainian security agency. The young woman fears that the infrastructures attacked are those that allow Ukrainians to have access to electricity and water.
“We don’t know how long it will last,” laments the young woman, visibly moved.
For a few months, life seemed to have resumed its course in the capital, he says again. Despite the maintenance of the curfew, “Kyiv lived well,” sums up Yassya.
With the threat returning, she and her mother contemplate having to go into hiding again. “We have all our bags packed. We’re waiting for new sirens. If she drops here again, we’ll hide in the basement or the subway,” she says. The city should experience a widespread power outage in the next few hours to reduce the risk in the event of a new strike.
