While Russian forces launched attacks on several Ukrainian cities on Monday morning, electricity will soon be cut off in the city of Kyiv, according to the spokesman for the Ukrainian embassy in France.
This measure, adopted as a preventive measure, aims to reduce the risks for the inhabitants of the capital in the event of a new attack by the Russian army. In the morning, several explosions were heard in Kyiv. This is the first time the city has been attacked since June 26.
According to Volodymyr Zelensky, many other cities were affected, such as Lviv in the west, Dnipro in the center and Zaporizhia in the south. The president clarified that one person died and several were injured.
russian revenge
“They are trying to destroy us all, to wipe us off the face of the Earth,” Volodymyr Zelensky commented on social media, calling on European leaders to take a strong stance against Russia’s actions.
While Ukrainian forces have been gaining ground by retaking territory in recent weeks, these new attacks from the Russian side look like revenge for an increasingly weakened Vladimir Putin. “Russia’s responses will be severe and their scale will match the level of threats posed,” he said Monday.
The latter accused the Ukrainian secret services on Sunday of being behind the explosion of the Crimean bridge, which connects Russia with the annexed peninsula, a fact that he described as a “terrorist act”. The Kremlin had also announced that he would meet with his security council on Monday.
