The national security advisor of the Israeli Government recognized this Saturday “errors” of the intelligence services in the attacks carried out last Saturday by the Islamist movement Hamas.
“It is my mistake and it reflects the mistakes of all those who carry out the evaluations” in the intelligence services, Tzachi Hanegbi said at a press conference.
“We really thought that Hamas had learned its lesson” after the last war against Israel, in 2021, he added.
Hanegbi also rejected any talk of a prisoner exchange with Hamas.
“It is not possible to negotiate with an enemy that we have sworn to annihilate,” he said.
The Islamist group Hamas launched a surprise attack against Israel a week ago with thousands of rockets and an incursion of armed militiamen by land, sea and air.
In response, Israel bombed several Hamas infrastructures in the Gaza Strip from the air and imposed a total siege on the territory, cutting off water, fuel and electricity supplies.
The attacks have already caused thousands of deaths and injuries in both territories.
