War in Ukraine: Macron “has taken new steps to support Kyiv militarily”

The President of the Republic has also taken “provisions to be able to meet the needs of the Ukrainian population”, we learned from the Elysee after a Defense Council on Monday.

International aid to Ukraine will increase after the attacks carried out by the Russian army on Monday in the country. The President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, held an emergency meeting on Ukraine at night and considered that the series of Russian attacks represents a “profound change in the nature” of the war.

The restricted Defense Council met for an hour and a half at the end of the day, in the presence of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna and of the Armed Forces Sébastien Lecornu.

With BFMTV, the Elysee indicates that the “President of the Republic has taken new measures to support Ukraine militarily and meet the needs of its population.”

Biden promises Zelensky ‘advanced air defense systems’

Earlier this Monday, Emmanuel Macron spoke with Volodymyr Zelensky, President of Ukraine. The latter also exchanged with Olaf Scholz, the Polish president, the Dutch prime minister, the British prime minister and the secretary general of the United Nations, it can be read on the site of the Ukrainian presidency.

Volodymyr Zeensky also announced that he spoke with Joe Biden after the strikes in Kyiv. The US president has promised to “continue to provide Ukraine with what it needs to defend itself, including advanced systems” for air defense, according to a White House statement.
