This Monday, Israel increased the number of people captured in the October 7 attack by the Islamist group Hamas to 199, 44 more than the previous count.
“We have informed the families of the 199 hostages,” Israeli Defense Forces spokesman Admiral Daniel Hagari said at a news conference, quoted by the French agency AFP.
Hagari did not specify whether the number of hostages included foreigners or say who is holding them, but the majority are believed to be in the hands of Hamas, which rules Gaza.
An earlier report released on Sunday estimated the number of hostages at 155.
The number of deaths from Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip stands at 2,750, according to the report released Monday morning by the local Health Ministry.
According to the same source, 9,700 people were also injured in attacks carried out in retaliation for Hamas’ unprecedented attack on Israel on October 7.
This means there are 80 more deaths and 100 injuries compared to the last report released this Sunday.
In Israel, 1,400 people died and 3,500 were injured as a result of Hamas attacks.
